The 2008 summer events calendar will include a prestigious
event to take place in the Downtown Denver area, Uptown Harlem
Nights. Uptown Harlem Nights is a fundraiser geared towards
raising prostate cancer awareness and the need for screening in Denver's
communities. Uptown Harlem Nights is to be held at the Denver Mile High
Station, the week of Prostate Cancer Awarness. Journey back in time and
imagine. It’s the summer of 1935 in Harlem New York City, the pulse
of the cities culture. The main attraction for cultural refuge was Benjamin
(Benny) Franklin Hooper’s Casino. During that period this was the
place to commune with the community. As you pull up in your 1927 Chrysler
Model 40 Roadster, High Fashion Suits and French Cut Summer Evening Gowns,
form a line to see Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald and a host of others
that are scheduled to throw down that night. Swing dancing, soul food, top
shelf liquor and whistling at the cigarette lady, while the crowd that caught
the “A” train, files in to the hear Dizzy Gillespie play with
Cab Callaway. |
